Getting your API keys

Octoflick is bring-your-own-key. You add your own keys for the AI providers and pay them directly, at cost — no credit markup, no marked-up generation. Your subscription is just for the Octoflick workflow. It takes about 5 minutes to set up.

Keys are encrypted at rest and only used server-side to call the provider on your behalf. They’re never shown again after you save them, and never sent to your browser.

Which keys do I need?

You don’t need all of them — add a key for each feature you plan to use.

Anthropic (Claude)

Get your key
  1. 1Go to console.anthropic.com and sign in (or create a free account).
  2. 2Open Settings → API Keys in the left menu.
  3. 3Click "Create Key", name it "Octoflick", and copy the key (it starts with sk-ant-). You only see it once.
  4. 4Open Plans & Billing and add a small balance — analysis won't run without one.

Cost: Pay-as-you-go per script; analyzing a feature costs cents, not dollars.

Paste it in Settings → API keys.

OpenAI (ChatGPT Image)

Get your key
  1. 1Go to platform.openai.com and sign in.
  2. 2Open "API keys" in the left menu → "Create new secret key".
  3. 3Name it "Octoflick" and copy the key (it starts with sk-). You only see it once.
  4. 4Open Billing and add a payment method — image generation is pay-as-you-go.

Cost: Pay-as-you-go per image (a few cents each).

Paste it in Settings → API keys.

Google Gemini (NanoBanana)

NanoBanana image generation (best continuity)

Get your key
  1. 1Go to aistudio.google.com/apikey and sign in with a Google account.
  2. 2Click "Create API key" and copy it (it starts with AIza).
  3. 3Turn on billing for the linked Google Cloud project — the free tier caps image generation at zero, so you must enable billing to actually generate.

Cost: Pay-as-you-go per image; NanoBanana is the cheapest image option.

Paste it in Settings → API keys.

  2. 2Open Account → API tokens.
  3. 3Copy your default token (it starts with r8_), or create a new one.
  4. 4Open Account → Billing and add a card — video renders are billed per second.

Cost: Billed per second of render; a 5-second clip is typically well under $1.

Paste it in Settings → API keys.
